Mijenta becomes first tequila to receive B Corp certification

Altos Planos Inc., producer of Mijenta Tequila, has announced that it has received B Corp certification from B Lab. It marks the first time a tequila producer has received the recognition, with the company exceeding the criteria required to earn the label.

The certification signifies companies that are focused on operating and growing in environmentally and socially conscious ways, prizing purpose alongside profit. Five key areas are covered in certification, including: governance, workers, community, environment and customers.

Mijenta has committed to a wide range of environmental responsibility while producing its products, with its carbon neutral approach perhaps the biggest of all. The company has offset nearly 720,000 kg of CO₂ through its collaboration with ClimatePartner.

Other sustainability steps that Mijenta have taken include eco-friendly packaging, the protection of forests and cloud forests, and the lack of use of pesticides and herbicides.
