Glasgow Distillery expands small batch series single malt range

The Glasgow Distillery is releasing two new small-batch expressions of its flagship Glasgow 1770 single malt Scotch whisky.

The Glasgow 1770 Innis & Gunn Golden Beer Cask Finish and Glasgow 1770 Tokaji Cask Finish follow the sell-out success earlier this year of two other small-batch releases of the distillery’s single malt: Tequila Cask Finish and Cognac Cask Finish.

The Golden Beer Cask Finish has been matured in first fill ex-bourbon and finished for three months in a Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead which was previously used to mature Innis & Gunn’s Original Beer, while the Tokaji Cask Finish spent two and a half years in a bourbon cask before being moved to a Hungarian Tokaji wine cask for an extended finishing of more than 18 months. Glasgow Distillery previously played with wine cask finishes, including Tokaji, in a series of distillery-exclusive bottlings .

Only 356 bottles of the Golden Beer Cask Finish are available at 58.5% ABV, while 210 bottles of the Tokaji Cask Finish are available at 58.1% ABV.

Mike Hayward, Glasgow Distillery co-founder, said: “Moving into beer cask finishing for the first time demonstrates our commitment to cask experimentation and flavour trialling. Innis & Gunn is traditionally a beer finished in whisky casks, so our Golden Beer Cask Finish brings the premise full circle, creating a deliciously golden and hoppy whisky, with deep sherried undertones.

“We are always prepared to take risks and push boundaries to create something different for our consumers, and we hope these two bottlings are as well-received as their predecessors.”

The Glasgow 1770 Innis & Gunn Golden Beer Cask Finish and Glasgow 1770 Tokaji Cask Finish, both priced at £59 per 70cl bottle, are available via the distillery’s
website and from specialist retailers including Royal Mile Whiskies, Master of Malt and House of Malt.
