Port of Leith distillery creating over 50 jobs

The UK’s first vertical distillery, Port of Leith, is set to create over 50 local jobs this summer ahead of the opening of the towering new landmark.

Muckle Brig will fill 53 new positions, with the majority at the Port of Leith Distillery and the remaining at the eco-friendly Lind & Lime gin distillery also located in Leith.

Expanding on its current team of 18 across both sites, roles being recruited include hospitality and tourism, digital marketing, production, business development and finance.

Co-founders Ian Stirling and Paddy Fletcher are hoping that the distillery will become the biggest tourist attraction in Leith, predicting 25,000 visitors in the first six months.

Stirling commented: “It was a love for spirits and a love for Leith that formed our foundations back in 2018. Since then, we’ve opened our new Lind & Lime facility on Coburg Street and are now preparing to open the UK’s first vertical distillery, right in the heart of the historic port.

“Local investment and local employment have always been a key focus of ours. We’ve been fortunate enough to have worked with a host of excellent local talent so far and are looking forward to welcoming some new faces to help us make history down by the shore.”

The £12 million nine-storey distillery will offer services such as tours and tastings for visitors, with a mezzanine bar located at the top floor and panoramic views of Leith and Edinburgh.

The distillery broke records in the summer of last year, after crowdfunding its target of £2 million in just three hours, increasing the total raised to £13 million.
