Kilchoman to build rum distillery on Barbados

Kilchoman Distillery has announced planning permission has been received to build a rum distillery on Barbados.

Nine acres of land as well as a mansion house were purchased in the Paris of St Phillip back in the August 2021, with plans to erect buildings to house the distillery as well as a mill and cask warehouse. Sugar cane will be purchased from the surrounding fields, to be crused on site and used to produce the rum from sugar cane juice and syrup.

Production of the rum will be from two copper pot stills, with the site also hosting the maturation and bottling of the spirit.

Kilchoman founder Anthony Wills is teaming with former Mount Gay managing director Frank Ward, who is consulting the project. The brand have developed a network of distributors around the world and will use these to distribute its rum.

Wills commented on the announcement: “This is an exciting development for Kilchoman and we look forward to sharing more news as the project takes shape.”
