Graham Logan retires as Jura distillery manager

Jura has announced the retirement of its esteemed distillery manager Graham Logan, following three decades of service.

Logan recently marked his retirement at London Whisky Show, appearing alongside famed former Distillery Manager Willie Tait, whisky maker Joe Ricketts and the newly appointed Jura Distillery Manager, Jamie Muir. He launched his own special release of Jura Single Malt Whisky, the Logan cask, at the whisky festival on Jura this summer.

He joined Jura in November 1991 as a trainee mashman following his time working as a Royal Navy engineer. Over the next 25 years, he rose through the ranks to become distillery manager in 2016, succeeded Willie Tait.

Commenting on his retirement, Logan said: “It’s been an honour to serve the island and our distillery for all these years. Jura is a lot more than just a whisky – and the work that we do here is truly special. I look forward to seeing Jura’s bright future ahead and I know the distillery in good hand.”

New distillery manager Muir previously worked at the distillery in 2006, but moved to mainland Scotland to experience other distilleries and hone his craft. Commenting on his new role, he said: “It’s a real full-circle moment, returning to Jura as Distillery Manager, having started my career here 16 years ago. I grew up on the island and have memories of football matches with Willie and sharing drams with Graham, so to follow in their footsteps is a real honour,”
