Maison Martell reveals Martell Single Cru collection
Maison Martell’s new Martell Single Cru collection is a landmark release for the brand, as the first collection in which every cognac is made with eaux-de-vie from a single terroir. Inspired by Jean Martell, who founded Maison Martell in 1715, the collection was created by cellar master Christophe Valtaud.
Valtaud says of the collection: “From the very beginning, the ethos of Maison Martell has been to express the best of the Cognac terroir. With Martell Single Cru, a rare and prestigious collection which represents less than 1% of Martell cognacs, my aim was to reveal the richness and diversity of the very finest crus. My hope is that this aromatic exploration of the Cognac region will speak to adventurous cognac drinkers, opening their minds and palates to new tastes, and enabling them to build their own personal collection. One which reflects their preferences and the pleasure of discovery.”
Martell Single Cru collection is an exploration of the crus of Cognac, and will grow over time. The collection has been released in three editions of ascending age: Discovery, Aged and Vintage.
The Discovery edition is an introduction to the collection, as is a starting point for explorers of the Cognac region. The three cognacs in the edition are each made with eaux-de-vie sourced from a single cru - Fins Bois, Petite Champange and Borderies.
The Aged Edition will be enriched every year and released in small batches of individually numbered bottles, always made with eaux-de-vie from Borderies and Grande Champagne. The first bottlings in the Aged Edition are Martell Single Cru XO Grande Champagne and Martell Single Cru XXO Borderies.
Every year, a new cognac will be added to the Vintage Edition: a single eau-de-vie, sourced from a single terroir, in a single year. It will be released in extremely limited quantities for collectors.
The first release in the Vintage Edition is Martell Single Cru Borderies 1999, created with an eau-de-vie from the Gallienne estate, the vineyard of the Martell family. The eau-de-vie was produced in 1999 and then distilled and aged in fine-grained oak barrels for 23 years.
Martell Single Cru The Discovery Edition & The Aged Edition XO are available now. Martell Single Cru The Aged Edition XXO & The Vintage Edition will be available early 2024 at selected retail stores in Mainland China and throughout Asia (South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia) and at the Martell boutique in Cognac.
