Baileys to trial aluminium bottle in travel retail

Irish cream liqueur brand Baileys has announced that it will trial aluminium bottles in select international airports.

Released in March to mark B Corp Month, the lighter bottle is a practical move as well as sustainable, giving shoppers in travel retail venues a more convenient bottle to carry on their journey.

Baileys was certified as a B Corp brand in October 2022, the first Irish spirits brand to receive the accreditation.

Sarah Blake, global brand director for Baileys, commented: “We are proud to drive our progress in the community with our latest innovation to deliver positive impact. While this is an important milestone for Baileys, we know that there is more we can do. We are already looking forward to the delivery of more initiatives as we journey towards our 2030 commitments.”

The trial contributes toward parent company Diageo’s aim to reduce the carbon footprint of its packaging, and the company’s overall 10-year Environmental, Social, and Governance plan ‘Society 2030: Spirit of Progress’.

The Baileys aluminium bottle will be available in Amsterdam Schipol, Frankfurt, and Copenhagen airports from next month, as well as online and instore in REWE Germany, for a limited period only.

Baileys is by no means the only drinks brand trying the aluminium bottle — Penrhos Spirits, which first adopted aluminium in 2023 for its ‘wonky fruit’ spirits, recently announced that its Wonky Raspberry Alumini would be available inflight on select easyJet journeys.
