Reefton Distilling Co has appointed Gareth Morgan as distillery manager, a move poised to surge efficiency and “provide a huge benefit to our business” according to chief executive Patsy Bass.

Priding itself on using locally sourced ingredients, including spring water and hand-foraged native botanicals, the appointment of Morgan in a senior role underscores Reefton’s commitment to maintaining high standards and driving innovation.

Seasoned with extensive experience in the Scotch whisky distilleries Macallan and Tamnavulin, Gareth brings a wealth of wisdom to the pivotal role in New Zealand overseeing production and management of the cask program for Reefton’s Moonlight Creek Single Malt Whisky.

Although Reefton may be half a world away from Speyside, Gareth says there are many similarities with his Scottish homeland, and not just the majestic landscape.

He commented: “Ask anyone in the industry and they will tell you that the most important requirements for making fine whisky and other spirits are the best  ingredients, an abundance of clear pure water, the highest quality of malted barley and a team of  dedicated and experienced people.”

Reefton Distilling Co’s focus on quality is evident in their meticulous production process, from the onsite milling, mashing, and fermentation to the double pot distillation in handcrafted copper stills. The company’s inaugural casks of Moonlight Creek Whisky are already in maturation, with Founder’s Casks and Limited Edition ceramic crocks available for pre-order.

Morgan’s appointment signifies an exciting chapter for Reefton Distilling Co as it continues its journey of producing premium spirits that reflect the natural beauty and rich heritage of New Zealand’s west coast.
