Three spirits companies running trade competitions this month

The start of April has seen announcements of multiple cocktail competitions held by spirits brands. Celebrating the creativity and expertise behind mixology, the competitions invite bartenders across the UK to enter. 

Sapling Earth Month Cocktail Competition

British distiller Sapling Spirits has launched a competition in celebration of Earth Month. Known for its eco-conscious practices, Sapling has been a B Corp since 2022. 
Bartenders are invited to create a cocktail using Sapling Vodka and a zero-waste element, such as fruit peel or vegetable scraps. 
Awarded to the winning cocktail will be a two-night stay at one of the Pig Hotels, two tickets to the Sapling Wild Days Out, and three bottles from the Sapling collection. Sapling has previously collaborated with the Pig Hotel to create a coffee vodka using spent coffee grounds from the hotels.
The first round closed on 5 April. Sapling will announce the winning bartender on Earth Day, 22 April 2024, at the competition final in which the five finalists will present their take on a ‘British Garden’ cocktail.

Desi Daru Culture Colliders

Desi Daru has invited bartenders across the UK to create a cocktail using its flavoured Alphonso Mango Vodka. Styled as ‘Culture Colliders’, the competition asks participants to use at least one Indian-inspired and one British-inspired ingredient to celebrate the brand’s heritage.
Mohit Singh, Desi Daru founder, said: “We are looking for cocktails that not only taste exceptional but also embody the spirit of Desi Daru — a fusion of tradition and innovation. Desi Daru Culture Colliders is a platform for bartenders to express themselves creatively and to celebrate the cultural diversity that inspires our brand.”
The winning bartender will receive a £2,000 cask prize, trip to the distillery, a Michelin-star meal for two, and the Culture Colliders trophy.

Kilchoman Shake the Farm

Islay farm distillery Kilchoman is celebrating the release of its Batch Strength expression with a new competition: Shake the Farm. 
Open to bartenders across the UK, entrants are asked to create a cocktail using Kilchman Batch Strength whisky and at least one British-farmed or foraged ingredient. “Locally farmed ingredients are at our heart,” Kilchoman shared on its website.
The competition will be held in stages. After the initial entries are judged, select participants will be invited to heats in Edinburgh, Manchester, and London. Winners of each heat will then be invited to a four-day all-expenses-paid apprenticeship at the Kilchoman Distillery, in which they will have a hands-on whisky making experience. 
At the end of the apprenticeship will be the final competition and the winner will be selected. The overall winner will receive six bottles of an exclusive single cask expression.
