Turncoat Gin Distillery adopts aluminium bottles
Liverpool’s Turncoat Gin Distillery has made the switch to aluminium bottles. The change is a sustainable step for the distillery, which says it will save “approximately 0.4kg of CO2 emissions per bottle”.
By switching from glass to reusable aluminium bottles, the distillery hopes to reduce its carbon footprint through their longer lifespan and lighter weight. Turncoat plans to reduce waste by emphasising the reusability of the aluminium bottles for its on-trade partners, and is working on refill options for consumers.
Edward Ridding, head of distillery, commented: “We believe that sustainability should be at the heart of everything we do. Our decision to launch reusable aluminium bottles reflects our dedication to creating a positive impact on the environment. We hope that our partners in the licensed on-trade can work with us to recycle, reuse, and reduce their carbon footprints.”
Ridding added: “Aluminium bottles also offer a range of benefits for our stockists including reduction in breakages and improved product lifespan. This is the first of many changes here at the distillery as we work towards becoming carbon neutral.”
Originally opened in 2016, Turncoat was
saved from closure last year when it was bought by Ridding, a former brand ambassador for Bombay Sapphire. The distillery recently relocated to Love Lane Brewery in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle.
