Bunnahabhain launches Fèis Ìle whiskies in US

Islay distillery Bunnahabhain is launching two of its limited-edition whiskies to the United States this month.

The 14 Years Old Ruby Port Cask Finish and 23 Years Old Triple Sherry Wood Finish were released by the distillery as part of the celebrations for Fèis Ìle, Islay’s annual whisky festival held at the end of May.

Andrew Brown, Bunnahabhain distillery manager, shared: “Fèis Ìle is a true celebration of everything that makes Islay whisky so special; the community, the craftsmanship, and the heritage. Every year we welcome visitors from around the globe to celebrate our distillery home during the festival. But we know not everyone can make the journey to Islay, so these special drams have been crafted to enjoy with us, wherever you are in the world.”

Both expressions “stay true to Bunnahabhain’s renowned sherried style”, said master blender Julieann Fernandez.  The 14 Years Old was matured in bourbon casks before transfer to ruby port hogshead casks for a finishing period. The producer’s tasting notes include cherries and dark chocolate, with red berries leading to a spicy finish.

The 23 Year Old Triple Sherry Wood cask strength release brings together whiskies finished in amontillado, manzanilla, and oloroso sherry casks. Bunnahabhain describes the 23-year-old as having notes of fudge, vanilla, and tobacco, with “an exceptional burst of sherry”.

The two expressions will be available to purchase in select US markets from early June. Bunnahabhain 14 Years Old Ruby Port Cask (58.7% ABV, 117.4 Proof) has an MSRP of US$213.99. Bunnahabhain 23 Years Old Triple Sherry Wood (53.3% ABV, 106.6 Proof) has an MSRP of US$713.99.
