Bacardí awarded for Bombay Sapphire river protection
Spirits company Bacardí has been recognised by the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) for its initiative to protect the river that runs through its Bombay Sapphire distillery.
At the Hampshire distillery on the banks of the river Test, Bacardí’s river protection work has seen it plant wildflowers and create fish and eel passes, to allow for river life to move freely.
Bombay Sapphire distillery is also part of the Anglers’ Riverfly Monitoring Initiative, which monitors invertebrates in the river.
Margaret O’Gorman, WHC president, said: “WHC is proud to honour the Bacardí-owned Bombay Sapphire site with the Wetlands and Water Bodies Award. This award not only recognises Bacardí for its achievements, but it also serves as an example of the actions taken by the private sector to support biodiversity around the world.”
Rodolfo Nervi, VP, Safety, Quality & Sustainability, Bacardí, added: “At Bacardí, protecting the environment and wildlife surrounding our production sites is not a choice, it’s a must. We’re incredibly proud to win this award as we continue in our commitment to do the right thing by people and planet.”
The WHF is an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) which aims to enable the private sector to protect nature and biodiversity on corporate land. It has more than 100 member businesses and operates in 19 countries.
