Fifth whisky released in Chichibu 7even Gods of Fortune line
Salud Spirits, the drinks distributor based in the Netherlands, has released Fukurokuju, the fifth instalment in 7even Gods of Fortune, its line of single-cask bottlings made by Chichibu Whisky.
Like its predecessors in the series the new release is named for one of the seven gods of fortune of Japanese legend: Fukurokuju is the god of wealth and longevity. Debuting in 2022 with Ebisu (god of luck), the 7even Gods of Fortune series is expected to end in 2025 after two further bottlings.
The Fukurokuju single-cask release has been matured for eight years in a first-fill bourbon barrel. Just 188 bottles have been released, bottled at cask strength of 61% ABV. Tasting notes supplied by the brand highlight green apple, roses, icing sugar, oliebollen, and tropical fruit.
The distinctive packaging was designed by digital artist and NFT designer WARBB. Robbin Snijders, the person behind WARBB, commented: “When I was approached by this wonderful whisky brand, I was immediately enthusiastic. It’s an honour to contribute to the total customer experience and for me, it’s the ultimate way to bring my art alive.”
One bottle of Fukurokuju will be auctioned by Salud Spirits, along with other Chichibu bottlings including a Red Wine Cask 2023 and a Spirits of Salud release. Held at the Japanese Consulate in the Hauge, the auction will raise money for
Second Harvest Japan.
