Swedish spirit maker Almqvist Destilleri has announced its expansion to the UK market, in partnership with Speciality Drinks. The expansion is the distillery’s first launch in a new market since it opened in Sweden in 2022.

 

Almqvist was founded by Bex Almqvist, who began her career as a bartender in London. A job with Absolut Vodka, for whom she worked for 10 years in roles including marketing manager, brought her to Sweden, where she founded Almqvist Destilleri in the village of Rejmyre.

 

The brand has two products which will come to the UK: Rejmyre Aquavit and Nordic Dry Gin. The aquavit was created to “modernise the aquavit category through Swedish tradition”. Both Almqvist’s aquavit and gin are made with a range of botanicals with a Nordic influence. 

 

Bex Almqvist commented: “I am incredibly excited to be expanding into the UK where I began my career in the drinks industry. I believe this marks such an important step in Almqvist’s journey, through the support of Speciality Drinks we will be able to reach a wider audience and introduce my take on Swedish spirits to the UK’s best bars and restaurants.”
