Scotch Whisky Association affirms commitment to responsible marketing with new appointments

The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) has confirmed the appointment of four new members to its Independent Complaints Panel (ICP) for its Code of Practice for Responsible Marketing of Scotch Whisky.

The ICP is the final arbiter on any complaints raised under the code which sets out minimum standards for marking and promotion of Scotch whisky. Established in 2005, the code is applied globally and covers all commercial communications by SWA members.

Jon Collins was appointed as chair of the ICP for the next three years, taking over from Dame Anne McGuire. Collins is CEO of LIVE, which represents the UK’s live music sector. He has recently served on the Portman Group Independent Complaints Panel.

Collins said: “I am delighted to be appointed to the panel and take on the role of Chair. The ICP is an important element of self-regulation. I look forward to working with my other panel members and support the Scotch whisky industry to market its brands responsibly.”

Mark Kent, chief executive of the Scotch Whisky Association, added: “The Scotch Whisky industry takes seriously its commitment to marketing its products to consumers in a responsible way. The expansion of the Code’s Independent Complaints Panel confirms our continuing commitment to ensure Scotch Whisky is marketed to the high standards set out in the Code.

“I would like to thank Dame Anne McGuire, who has stood down as chair of the Panel, for all her work in guiding and supporting the panel over the years.”

Also joining current members Catherine Waller and Paul Neep on the panel are: Claire Fowler, a senior marketer in the drinks industry who currently works for an independent marketing consultancy; Naomi Eminue, who leads an integrated Early Help and Prevention service in East London and joins as a youth work specialist; and Graeme McKenzie, insight and media director for Argos at Nectar360 (Sainsburys).

The full code of practice can be accessed via the SWA website.
