Wrexham Lager Beer Co, Welsh lager brewery which dates back to 1882, has announced that actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are now co-owners. The Roberts family, which has owned the brewery since 2011, remains an active co-owner within the business.
McElhenney and Reynolds made the acquisition through Red Dragon Ventures a company “created to drive growth in the Wrexham community and Wrexham AFC”, which was formed by the RR McReynolds Company and the Allyn family. The RR McReynolds Company is current majority owner of Wrexham AFC.
McElhenney and Reynolds said: “As co-chairmen of Wrexham AFC we have learned a lot. The connection between club and community, the intricacies of the offsides rule and the occasional need for beer — especially after finance meetings. Wrexham Lager has a 140-year-old recipe and a storied history and we’re excited to help write its next chapter.”
Due to the new ownership, the brewery expects to scale up infrastructure, and internation production, distribution,
and marketing. The brands has recently seen UK grown and expansion into Australia, Japan, and
Scandinavia. It is now planning US and Canada expansion.
James Wright, CEO of the Wrexham Lager Beer Co, said: “This is a brand with great heritage — the oldest lager brewery in Great Britain, once enjoyed across the world. So, to have Rob and Ryan onboard as we embark on international expansion is huge for us. They have been doing wonders for the town of Wrexham and strongly share our passion for once again seeing Wrexham Lager enjoyed in all the far-flung corners of the globe.”
